A Ukrainian community in Bologna between faith, memory and belonging.

Non è la mia lingua. Non è nemmeno la mia preghiera.

Eppure, tutto sembra familiare.

Ogni domenica, in una piccola chiesa nascosta nel centro di Bologna, prende forma un mondo diverso. Le voci diventano canto, i gesti seguono un tempo antico, e tutto sembra rallentare.

Le persone che si ritrovano qui arrivano da lontano. Portano con sé frammenti di un’altra vita — ricordi, abitudini, un senso di appartenenza che non si può lasciare indietro. Dentro questo spazio, la distanza si fa fragile.

L’Ucraina non è più un luogo sulla mappa, ma qualcosa che vive nei volti, nelle mani, nel silenzio.

Quello che accade qui va oltre il rito religioso. È un modo per restare legati, per ricostruire un’idea di casa, anche quando casa è altrove.

Fuori, Bologna continua il suo ritmo. Dentro, per un momento, tutto si ferma.

And yet, everything feels familiar.

Every Sunday, in a small church hidden in the historic center of Bologna, a different world quietly takes shape. Voices turn into chants, gestures follow an ancient cadence, and time seems to slow down.

The people who gather here come from far away. They carry with them fragments of another life — memories, habits, a sense of belonging that cannot be left behind.

Inside this space, distance becomes something fragile. Ukraine is no longer a place on the map, but something that lives in faces, in hands, in silence.

What happens here is more than a religious ritual. It is a way to remain connected, to rebuild a sense of home, even when home is elsewhere.

Outside, Bologna continues its rhythm. Inside, for a moment, everything stands still.
